Turtle Watching Natural Refuge

Explore the secret life of sea turtles in their natural refuge.

On this night tour we take you to Playa Minas, near Tamarindo, one of Costa Rica's most important nesting sites. From October to March, sea turtles come ashore to lay their eggs, and with luck you can also see hatchlings making their way to the ocean. Our guides explain the whole nesting process and use infrared lights so you can watch and take photos without disturbing the turtles. Sometimes we walk to a nearby beach to wait for a sighting.

Did You Know?

Pacific green turtles can travel up to 2,000 km to nest in Las Baulas Marine Park, and they always return to the same beaches where they were born, a phenomenon known as natal homing.
